On a cold day in January…
In 2013 I was a part of a delegation of North Dakota Natives that came to DC to be in the Inauguration Parade. The temps were in the upper teens early in the AM, and hovered in the low to mid 20s throughout the day. Many of us being Natives from the Northern Plains, this was not something unknown to us, we just dressed for the weather. We were there from the early morning hours for lineup until late afternoon, and walked MILES, carrying our Tribal flags and banners. The parade was LONG, and the Mall was filled with thousands of people.
I remember walking past President Obama’s viewing box, waving and rattling my tongue as we walked past. They waved back.
The temps stayed the same pretty much throughout the day, never getting out of the 20’s. We were outside for the greater part of the day, including the elders in our party.
We hardly felt it at all.
